Botanical name: Calathea makoyana
Common name: Peacock plant
Why we love this plant
The makoyana is hands down our favourite Calathea! Also known as the Peacock plant, it has a distinctive feathery display. Typically found in the tropics, Calatheas will thrive in more humid environments. As well as being beautiful, Calathea are great air purifiers and each has a 'praying' movement as light levels change. Calathea are non-toxic.
Plant care: Calathea
Light
Your Calathea can tolerate moderate-shade but will appreciate bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun.
Water
Keep your Calathea’s soil a little damp, ensuring good drainage.
Humidity
Your Calathea is a humidity lover, mist your plant to keep it happy or situate in a steamy room like the bathroom.
Seasonal
During warmer months, houseplants are actively growing and will appreciate regular plant food. During colder months, a plants growth rate slows down and so they often need less water.
